Two Victor Improved Concert reproducers sold here during the past few days , but were quite different. One had the 'Small Print" embossed into the Front Face of the reproducer , and the other had the small print imprinted into the Back. Would someone please explain the history of each. Thanks.

I didn't notice that and I was one of the sellers! Jerry B.

For what it's worth, I have four of the Victor Improved Concert reproducers (gold and nickel plated versions) and all are like the one that Jerry sold. I've never seen an example like the one that Hexaphone sold with recessed print on the face. Very interesting. Wondering if it is perhaps Canadian or perhaps a very early example or very late example? Just guessing here.

For what it is worth, the Improved Concert Sound Box was introduced on September 3rd, 1912. The October 1912 issue of Voice of the Victor has a picture of the sound box and it is the commonly-seen style. If the one with the fine print on the front is early, then it has to be VERY early.

What does
The Voice say about this soundbox? What was their rationale for introducing a new soundbox which seems to have been a rather short-lived product? I've always been curious.

The serial # is 1072 which is relatively low for Improved Concert. I stick myself to Edison and am not versed in Victor. However in the book Antique Phonograph Accessories & Contraptions by George Paul, there are three prototypes or experimental samples of the Improved Concert like reproducer illustrated on page 122. One of them falls into the design of what I have here but with two extra supporting arms mounted on the needle bar. So my guess is that it's the first standardized Improved Concert sold.

The main selling feature seems to be that it is NEW!

That has not changed since. Just look at new iphpne releases. I wonder if people back then also camped out in front of a Victor dealership so they would be first in line for the new reproducer?
