I am looking to complete my Thorens Excelda with a correct Thorens "Swiss Made" reproducer. My Excelda is not the very early one which would have come with a mica reproducer, but rather one from the 1930s with a more generic "Swiss Made" Thorens reproducer. Below are pictures from the Internet of the most common Excelda reproducers, but I understand that other Thorens reproducers may be correct as well. Please let me know if you can help.

That Excelda is beautiful. Want! And wifey would hardly notice. I recently got this Pal junker portable which I was gonna use for parts, but discovered it had a Thorens motor and reproducer, and it runs quite fantastically (I've greased and filed the arm since this video). It's an interesting little marriage, and I wonder why they put high-quality swiss parts on a dime-store portable? Was it marketed to be better-than-average because of that?

Anyway, my reason for posting is to remark that the black reproducer has a triangular needle hole, so you can use triangular bamboo. I'm not sure if the silver one does.

They might be good reproducers & motors but Thorens churned them out assembly line fashion to the point where they undercut the price of American components. Also, those Plaza Music Co portables were less expensive than buying a Victor or Columbia, but they sold for around $25, which was still a good chunk of money in the 20's
