FRom what I saw on ebay if it had been serviced and worked it would have been worth that to me-but I love these types of machines.

I can't figure it out, especially when GMB says he "stopped at $600" - ebay shows the $600 bid made by the same bidder as all the rest. Nothing sinister, just mysterious.

ps - $600 for such a piece of furniture, even without the phono/radio, would be absurd. I'm surprised the seller didn't have a reserve of at least $2000 . It would surely be $5000 or more, in a big city antique shop.

It must be something that ebay is doing. If you look at some of the other closed items from that same auction, they all show one bidder. I only looked at 4-5 other auctions, but maybe that's how ebay handles floor bidders after the sale is over. Either that or O***A spent a lot of money! It would have been nice to see some inside pictures of the cabinet to see if an existing cabinet was used for the phonograph chassis et. and how it was all fitted. Also, if it has a permanent magnet type speaker, or if a dynamic one was used.
Seems odd that Brunswick didn't put a little more effort into the grille. They had some really nice & elaborate grilles that were used on some of the other Panatropes. The thing is as big as a piano.

A friend of mine bought this at the auction house. There were only 2 internet bids, they started the bidding on the floor at $800, bidding was between my friend and one other in house bidder on a phone. Hammer price was $2500 +15%.

These models are very uncommon, that last similar one was the "Rudolph Valentino" piece that was sold from the Muchow collection in 2007 for around $13,000. Electronics are the same as in a PR-148 model, you are buying the cabinet. This was either going to go for insane money or no money, went the no money route.

An acoustic version from the Dave Heitz collection is now in the Jasper Sanfilippo collection.

I asked my friend to send some better pictures when he has it unpacked from the truck, I'll see about posting some then.

Had I known about this up for auction, things might have gotten insane. What an incredible machine!!! Your friend got the buy of the year, in my book. Congradulations to him.
