http://journal.sciencemuseum.ac.uk/brow ... recording/ A wonderful detailed account of re-creating a 1913 Gramophone (HMV) session of Beethoven's fifth Symphony, The recording itself is very good, the new recording though has quite a bit of background noise, however they discuss that this was as good as they could do with the wax experiments. It must have been costly, in fact the record lathe is new, the horn, and recording soundboxes, absolutely Astounding amount of work.

Indeed: if they had the time and budget to perfect the wax formula and tweak the recorder (especially to test the difference between mica and glass diaphragms), we might have heard some truly wonderful results. As it is, they did a splendid job with their experiment.
