It must have been costly, in fact the record lathe is new, the horn, and recording soundboxes, absolutely Astounding amount of work.

Indeed: if they had the time and budget to perfect the wax formula and tweak the recorder (especially to test the difference between mica and glass diaphragms), we might have heard some truly wonderful results. As it is, they did a splendid job with their experiment.
