I've got a four spring motor rebuild I'm working on. Everything seems to be good except I'm having one spring that likes to slip off the inner shaft as I wind it. It looks to me like the interior end of a spring which is supposed to be a Z has lost it's form and is less of a |_ and more of a \_.

I was wondering if anyone had tips or tricks for getting it back into form.

Hi, I've gone through the same thing while redoing my 4-springer in the VV 8-12. It's a simple, 5-step process.

Step 1. Pliers
Step 2. Try not to break it
Step 3. Break it
Step 4. Try not to cry
Step 5. Cry a lot

Just follow these easy steps and you'll be golden!

Those inner coils get awfully tight and tuff to work with...but double needle nose pliers is what I use.
As for crying..my crying is I have to be the champ of dropping tiny screws...no matter if I use a pan or not..one day Ill buy a metal sweeper and collect a pound of hardware off the floor of my garage and maybe Ill find those missing single socks somewhere too.

Got it done. I had to get a second set of smaller needle nose pliers and I got enough form to it that it sticks now. Thanks for the replies.
