Didn't Gene Cole Have the top half of a flat top VTLA (maybe mahogany) at the Wayne Show?

Hi Herb, Correct on both accounts. Genes VTLA was the Top half + in Mahogany. It should be noted that the Craigs list posting under discussion is a L Door XVI evidenced by the serial number being high, hinge position on the L doors and overall width of the cabinet. Still an unseemly demise if it had been complete when they got it. John

Oh the humanity. It's pretty sad, but the picture with the back down and the lamp is revolting.

It seems to me that this cabinet could be saved by a competent woodworker, provided that one had an original top half for hardware parts and from which to get dimensions. Technically, it would be quite difficult, but I think it could be done, and the end result would be one of the rarest phonographs in existence.

Just an FYI-- Gene finally found a full flat-top cabinet. He went all the way to Stanton's to secure it.
He has the complete mechanism in his 'dwarf' Pooley. I'm going over to help him unload his new cabinet in the morning and begin the transition of the mechanism.. So-- soon he will have a complete and beautiful Flat-top. If anyone is in need of any top half cabinet parts, or some of the hardware parts, let me know and I'll pass the info on to Gene.
