Slatless VV IV resurrected

The tiny VV IV has always been my tabletop favorite. Got my hands on an IV that looks like it was punted for a few field goals.
I figured since it was ready for the trash bin, I may as well take a challenge and cobble together some extra IV parts I had and try a restore.
The big challenge was the slats which were missing. I took some birch wood with the exact thickness, cut to size and used some extra oak veneer I had left over and I played chemist in mixing stains to match as close to the cleaned up cabinet.
So all in all, the botox'ed lady gets to live another century.

That's great!

No machine is a junk machine in my opinion.

Nice work! :)

The Victrola IV is a cute little guy. I've had one in my collection for decades. No lid, a 10" turntable, a tiny single mainspring, and an original selling price of $15. They sold like hotcakes, and consequently are common today, but they played a big part in putting recorded music into many thousands of homes. I'm glad yours is singing again.

Wow, that was a true labor of love, but also a great opportunity to try out things you might not have dared to try on a rarer machine. And the result is awesome. Congratulations and kudos for bringing that machine back from beyond the brink.

Ditto the other responses---great job! I don't suppose it would be possible to post an audio example of your IV playing something?

That sure is a very nice restoration. It's nice to see these machines restored back to thier former glory. This is a nice, early machine, because of the flat bar crank. I love these very early Victrola IV and VI machines.
