We are sad to report the passing of Charles Edgar Gregory, II, 72, of Melvindale, Michigan, born on September 1, 1943, in Saline Michigan. He passed peacefully at his home due to heart failure on November 18, 2015.
Charles was passionate about antiques and was an active member with the Michigan Antique Phonograph Society. He lectured numerous times at M.A.P.S events and historical societies, including Greenfield Village, and authored numerous antique-related articles. Charles was an aficionado of phonographs, clocks, and Edison Diamond Disc records. Since the age of fourteen, Charles maintained a fascination with the life of Thomas Alva Edison! Charles left the collecting community a huge four volume set of books: Edison's Diamond Disc Record Labels and Discography which he wrote in 2003. He accumulated one of the largest collections of Diamond Disc records.
He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Wassmer and son-in-law, Patrick Wassmer; sister, Rosemary Dohn; niece, Charleen Dubie; nephews, Greg Manley and Jeffrey Manley; and his adopted family, Ruth Sexton and her daughters, Angela and Bianca Lavarte.
Charles’ celebration of life was held on Monday, November 23, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Parkview Cemetery in Livonia. http://www.querfeldfuneralhome.com
Charles will be missed by the collecting community and his thorough and definitive research will live on to help future collectors. We are thankful for all the collectors past and present who have shared their knowledge of the phonograph collecting hobby. Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
