Yes, it's an attractive sheet music cabinet. The under glass area would only be practical for displaying but not using a Gem or Eagle or other small machine. Can anyone speculate what the original purpose was for that area?

Too bad it has nothing too do with phonographs. Would have been a neat piece to have. I'm still looking for a cylinder cabinet. Because, I have a shelf full of cylinder records.

Yes, It's a sheet music cabinet. You can tell by the thin shelves. The curved glass top was used for displaying bric-a-brac. That was very popular during Victorian times.

Aside from the depth being shallow compared to most record/phono cabinets, the hinge is on the right rather than the left. I don't recall who on the board observed and mentioned that in general record cabinets are hinged on the left while sheet music cabinets are hinged on the right. That rule of thumb might not hold true for all cabinets, but it seems to work most of the time.

This particular cabinet which is more attractive than the usual sheet music cabinet, would look nice mixed in with machines in a collection. Although the BIN price seems a little much.

Trying to find record cabinets out side of eBay can be a challenge. Especially cylinder ones. I have only seen those at the Mechanical Musical Extravaganza in Wayne New Jersey. I have a two disc record cabinets, for holding my 78's. The others are built into the machines.

It is a nice piece, and I agree that it's probably a sheet music cabinet, although it might be used for records, if the dimensions would allow; however, IMO the side bracing hardware for the angled pull-out feature doesn't look strong enough to bear the weight of stacks of 78s. And lotsa luck replacing that curved glass when it gets broken!

Could it hold cylinder records? Because I have a sheet music cabinet that I use for some of my two minute records, and an Edison Home Phonograph.


Yea, trying to get the glass replace if it broke, would be a pain.
