I received my APS magazine last night. Another great issue. Fran's article on the C250/C19 is definitely the cherry on top of the ice cream soda!

I agree, Damfino. Fran's article is the first of FOUR PARTS which trace the development, evolution, and sales of the Edison "Chippendale." We'll be learning about this monumental Disc Phonograph throughout 2016 and I'm looking forward to it. :)

I wish I had a JPG of the cover of the latest issue of the journal. It combines a holiday theme with the observance of the Centennial of the Chippendale. Here's a PDF:

The cover concept is Fran's, and Editor Rene used his magic to make it happen. Nice work, you two. :)

Thank you both for the kind words! :) (I blush)

George did the photography and the image post-editing, and should be included. Thanks, George for your help with the project! :)

Happy Holidays!
Fran

Poor Fran just received his copy of The Antique Phonograph today (mine arrived last Friday!). It's a gloomy, rainy afternoon here in western New York State, so he's been curled up with it, absorbing every detail. :)

Both Fran and my wife remarked to me about the back cover photo. I don't want to reproduce that here, but I'll show one of the shots that didn't make the final cut. The machine is a Type C ("Universal") Graphophone from 1897. Commonly regarded as a "business machine" by modern collectors, it was at first promoted as an exhibition instrument in addition to its office use. After all, it was equipped with a triple-mainspring, "hour-run" motor that would keep the music playing. Also shown in the image below is an original broadside advertising an exhibition in 1898 featuring a Universal "...with 42 inch Spun Brass Horn." The image shows a Universal so equipped; the horn supported by an early Halliday floor stand. Click the image twice to enlarge it.

There's an article in the current issue (December 2015) about the Universal Graphophone. (There are also 11 other articles.)

If you're not currently a member of the APS, or if you want to renew so you don't miss any future journals (and Fran's continuing series on the Edison Chippendales), you can become one in about two minutes right here:

Best to all,

I received my copy today. As a collector of reproducers I always enjoy reading Steve Medved article. This one on the Model-H reproducer was very enlightening. Look forward to more of his articles.

Yes, being a new subscriber, just last week, it feels like the Christmas season and I'm waiting for the big day. ;)

Gosh, I'm sorry for the wildly fluctuating delivery dates, guys. They're all mailed at the same time, from the same place, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to delivery dates. For instance, Fran and I live about 20 miles apart, and his journal arrived 6 days after mine! :?

This wasn't a problem before the APS became a 501(c)(3) Public Charity and was eligible for a special not-for-profit mailing rate. Well, I guess it's not really a problem as long as everyone receives their journals eventually, but it would be nice if we all had the "special day" at the same time! :)

I've been on the tail-end of receiving these journals, so I know it can be a little exasperating. Just know that we're all in this together (next time I may be one the last...again), and over the next few days, everyone should have theirs.

Say - - maybe we should "track" the deliveries...sort of like Santa Claus. :)

Thanks to all who have joined & renewed so far. It's VERY MUCH appreciated! :)
