I was browsing the Wildwood antique shop today and ran across three cylinder machines. Once I got past the grouchy desk clerk I was able to speak to the various owners.

The Amberola 30 has a broken diamond. She is selling it as a knick-knack. Most of the cylinders in the case (not included) are missing most of the plaster. She wants $165 for the cylinders and holder.

The next is a Standard with the small horn. This lady said it plays (I wasn't aloud to check it out) but has never been serviced. Most of the pin striping is missing and I couldn't get a pic of the motor. Price is $350 firm.

Pretty early Amberola 30 there...

The horn with the Standard seems to be a repro.

A price update on the Standard; she raised the price to $595!

All you've done to help her sell those machines and you weren't allowed to try the machine or take a photo of the motor? What salesmanship! Jerry

The place is a bit of a hit or miss. When I originally asked the guy working the counter if he had any info on any of the machines he said everything was sold as-is (while pointing at the sign) and there wasn't any info. I basically told him that if they didn't work they were useless. At that point a nicer employee stepped in and she contacted the owners for me. The woman with the standard and the woman with the 30 were both take it or leave it types. The guy with the 75 and the guy with the Vocalon were friendly and helpful. The AV guy is also a phono enthusiast.

I wouldn't buy from the first two considering their attitudes. The other two, if I bought anything, I try to do it outside the shop because the shop ticked me off. Plus like most "antique shops" in my neck of he woods, they are over priced and under quality.

Moot point for me however, I'm waiting for the Orlando show to look for a 4 minute outside horn machine...

Good Joe. You should be able to do better in Orlando.
