I´ve been offered this very nice looking gramophone - which looks like it´s "all there" and original to me. Thing is I have no access to catalogoues from Deutsche Grammophon or any book that shows this one. Does anyone know what model and year this is and do you think it all belongs together? It looks very unmolested and is in very nice condition!
The price is another matter, he´s asking 1200 dollars. Reasonable?
greatful for input

I bought a similar one in Germany in slightly better condition and complete with the celluloid plaque in place, for somewhat less at the end of 2014 year

Coincidentally, Howard Hope has one for sale in his site, not the German but the English version, see
http://www.gramophones.uk.com/informati ... h-120.html.

I'm not sure what the upright metal pin is adjacent to the winder. It's not part of the brake. I have the New Style 4 which is the same machine as this one but in the German catalogue it might have a different model number. Maybe Starkton can chip in with that?
As for price, well if it's all 100% correct and original (it looks it to me without closer inspection) I'd say that is a very reasonable price. Remember that this is a European machine distributed by G & T and not a Victor badged machine. The number produced is very small and insignificant compared to the American market. You wouldn't be able to buy this today in the UK for £1200, let alone $1200!

Aha, Carlos posted a reply that crossed with mine! The one HH has for sale currently has a reproduction winder and a slightly different brass horn. I'm not sure about that horn as to whether it is strictly correct for this model? Anyway, that example also has an Exhibition soundbox and not the earlier "Concert" type.
PS - HH is also incorrectly describing this as "the first Junior Monarch" when the true first Junior Monarch had a much plainer unadorned cabinet and is simply an over-grown "Trademark" machine with 10" turntable and extra gear to enable the motor to be turned 45 degrees so that it is fully enclosed in the larger cabinet. This slightly later pattern of cabinet actually belongs to the "New Style 4" no less.

If the motor looked original, I would buy that in a heartbeat.
