A great recording of the Rodgers and Hart Tune "The blue room" recorded by the Savoy Orpheans in London in 1927. The tune, part of the play "The Girlfriend", was issued in two versions by this band - this version with the full song on a 10" disk and also a shortened version with different orchestration on a 12" disk compliation of the best songs from "The Girlfriend". Both versions are just great!

Thanks for that recording of the Blue Room. That tune was one of the great jazz tunes played by the famous Jean Goldkette Orchestra with Bix Beiderbecke and Frankie Trumbauer in the 1920's. Unfortunately the band never recorded it. Bill Challis was one of the arrangers for the Goldkette Orchestra and did the arrangement of Blue Room. In 1937 Bill Challis was the guest on a weekly radio show called "Design For Dancing." Each week the show featured a different name arranger and the studio band played his arrangements. Here is a privately recorded acetate from that radio show of Bill Challis arrangement of "The Blue Room" from my youtube page:

jazzgirl1920s,
Welcome to the
The Talking Machine Forum! Ironically enough, I’m listening to that video now, because I Googled your user name and found
your YouTube Channel. I thought I recognized it from
John’s YouTube videos, but I wanted to check that before I sent you a welcoming private message.
Enjoy a 5-star rating and subscription from me, and thank both you and
RJ (as well as everyone else) for sharing your music.

Yes, I found you guys and it's great to be a member of this refuge for vintage music and 78 appreciators. I like looking for different looking or you might call unusual record labels. Here is one of, in my opinion, the more interesting 78 labels in my collection:

In honor of me finally getting around to adding the
tag, let me embed
jazzgirl1920s’s video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzHnC7Pq6sM
Note that you will need to remove anything after the video ID (e.g. ‘&feature=channel_page’ if you go there from your channel page, so if you see an ampersand in the
URL, delete that and anything following it).
You’ll end up with a
URL that looks something like:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzHnC7Pq6sM, where
‘OzHnC7Pq6sM’ is the video ID.
It’s nice to not have adverts here, isn’t it?
Note that you can double-click on the video to go to the channel (e.g. to leave them a comment or rate the video).
