What is your preferred way of mounting a 2 minute Columbia floating stylus? (wax, shellac?)

I believe stick shellac was used originally, but I would be tempted to try gel type crazy glue now.

I get a small flake of shellac, put in in the stylus hole, then melt it with a soldering iron and insert the sapphire. This is REVERSIBLE if the sapphire needs to be serviced in the future, and the method the sapphires were originally mounted.

You are right. Reversibility is important. Crazy glue would be reversible, but not as easily as shellac.
