It's very nice.

Has the motor board been replaced on this? The motor board color definitely appears (to my eyes) to be different relative to the rest of the mahogany on the cabinet. I have two VV-X table model Victrolas, one in mahogany and one in oak, and the color of the motor boards on each matches perfectly with the rest of the cabinet. I don't see any mention of the motor board being replaced / refinished in the description (on eBay or here) but I may have missed it.

I apologize for my tardiness in responding to the posts here. I am new at this and just getting a handle on how to post. A little back story is appropriate. Regarding the motor board, to my knowledge it has not been replaced in the more than 57 years that I have been acquainted with the machine. It belonged to my father, who passed away recently. The price it is being sold for on e-bay has been recently reduced to a starting bid of $500.00. The funds are being used to support a memorial for my father at the veteran's cemetery in St. Louis.

I hope you get a fair price for the player...considering why you are selling it.
Not sure if $500.00 is still a bit high though.
I don't know much about these either and what they would sell for.

at the risk of seeming difficult, because I mean this with all due respect, but I never understand comments like this... either you're familiar with a certain type of machine and its general selling price or you're not, and if you're not, then from what basis would you be saying whether it's priced too high? I mean that as a legitimate question, because I receive similar comments from time to time from people, usually regarding machines I'm selling when they're trying to give me lowball offers, and when I explain to them what my prices are based on (the market values I'm familiar with regarding specific models of specific machines, combined with what I've got into the machine, the cost of work and parts), I usually end up just never hearing from them again because they don't really have a response.

The early Victrolas sold in small numbers and were constructed with parts from horn machines. Early collectors were primarily interested in horn machines so many early Victrolas were sacrificed to complete a Victor. There are dealers today that might take this machine apart and sell the choice items individually. They might sell the following parts such as:
$100 for the cannon brake (Victors I, II, III, IV, & V)
$ 35 for a Vic V turntable
$300 for a Victor III or IV motor
$ 15 for a Victor I, II, or III speed control
$ 20 for a Victor I, II, III, IV, & V crank escutcheon
$100 for a Victor III, IV, or V tone arm
$65 for a Victor I, II, III, IV, & V reproducer

$635 estimate for the above good parts. Many of the above parts could also be used on the earlier lettered series Victors. This gives you an idea why this Victrola is not overpriced at $500. You can make a good argument that a clean table model X is no more interesting than a clean Victrola IX and the IX is worth about $200.

I agree with Jerry - BUT for the life of me why is the motor board a completely different finish - not even close to the rest of the machine ??
