Here's a couple of pictures of the little Standard A two clip I just acquired. Thanks to forum members who offered assistance on getting it ready to play. Thanks Rich for the measurements and up close photos of the bottom board that was missing.

That's very nice! You did a great job putting it back together! Don't expect the sound to be as good as the later machines......

The secret to adjusting these reproducers is that the ring is only tightened down until it is air tight, and the gaskets should be soft, and supple so the diaphragm moves freely, Glass ones act as a piston, the sound waves moving the whole, while later copper and mica, only the edge flexes. The eight thousandths sound ok, it would be nice if other sizes were available from .005-.008 in .0005 changes in thickness .005,.0055,.006,.0065,.007,.0075,.008.

Also! These are not to be used with a slip-on horn because the weight of the horn compresses the diaphragm gaskets and makes the sound very shrill. To be used with listening tubes, or crane suspended horn only!

Thanks everyone for all the information. I did try a black 2 minute on it and it played through just fine. The sound was not very good and I suspected it wouldn't be as I didn't rebuild the reproducer. I'm sure the gaskets are hard as a rock. I was already warned by a very nice helpful forum member about the fragile glass diaphragm. I like to get in there and do my on repairs because I like to see how everything works. However, I try to be very careful as I don't want to do any damage. I don't know whether I want to tackle this diaphragm or send it out. My DH made the bottom board for me. He helps me with all the repairs even though he is not really interested in the phonographs. Everyone has been so helpful here and always willing to answer my questions. This is a GREAT FORUM.
