...Open That Door!

I was loading records in albums today and found this humorous newspaper clipping pasted on a sleeve.

For those not knowing the song... :)

Lesser known version... :o

And its origins as the Vaudeville routine by Dusty Fletcher...

An internet search found the article was topical.
It came from the Tucson Daily Citizen, Friday, February 21, 1947
The song, released late in 1946, became number one hit the beginning of 1947.

I know the song without even looking. It's been years since I heard "Open the door, Richard, open the door and let me in." I am astonished, not to say dismayed, that this is a 1946-7 tune that I remember from childhood! Suddenly, I feel very old... :(

Funny!
I played the Jack McVea version at a party last Halloween. Dance floor absolutely packed. Put this record on and immediately heard grumblings of "racist ... oooh ... ummm ... that's really racist" etc." But in the end everybody was just too drunk to think too heavily about it.
