"The speed control is currently locked at 78 rpm."

hmm... bummer, especially if you want to play 78s.

For posterity:
For sale is a restored Edison Gramophone / wind-up phonograph. It is operational and plays loudly. The motor has had both main springs replaced with new springs. The old ones, being over 100 years old, were broken due to age. All parts were polished, cleaned and greased. The cabinet was in too bad of condition to be salvaged, so a new cabinet was built using solid black walnut and red oak. The turn table had new felt installed. The horn was stripped of its flaking paint and repainted according to how it looked originally. The original horn cone was missing, so a new one was fashioned from brass, which was artifically tarnished to reflect the age of the mechanical parts. The phonograph is in excellent working condition. The only thing keeping it from being like-new is that I have not yet repaired the speed control or the turn table break. The speed control is currently locked at 78 rpm. The sale is As-IS No Warranty due to the mechanical parts being over 100 years old.
I'm still researching how to repair the break and speed control. If it doesn't sell before they are repaired, the price will go up depending on the work and time required. Even with the break not working and the speed control missing, it is fully operational and plays really well.

Is it my imagination, or is that 1-¼" chrome-plated sink-drain connecting the tone-arm with the horn ?

Caveat emptor.

Well, it does offer a basis for comparison. If the Russian Victor VI is an example of a high-end fake, this one makes a good candidate for the opposite.

I sent him this picture of an original speed control device and break. Just to help complete the project.
