A friend of mine is selling a very nice VIC-V with a spear tip horn and a Pooley record cabinet for $3500. My question is is the price high or low. Not sure if I should buy it, need advice.

The photo of the record cabinet has been lifted from Antique Phonograph Gadgets, Gizmos, and Gimmicks. No, the record cabinet itself is not refinished (but the image was slightly overexposed). It really doesn't matter though, because that cabinet happens to be in my house!

Yes George, that is where the picture came from. I had a picture of the machine but not the cabinet. Do I looked on line to find a picture of it. It is the exact same cabinet in oak and is very nice. I will try to get a picture of the cabinet next time in over there and replace the one that posted now. Sorry about that.

That's no problem Rich. I wanted to be sure you knew that the cabinet you'd be receiving wasn't the one in the photo! :)

meant the machine case looked refinished, not the cabinet... figured that wasn't the actual cabinet for sale because it was in your book.

I saw the machine and it looked very original, not refinished. The picture that he sent me was not the best. As I said I will try to get some good quality pictures of both the machine and cabinet. My main issue is I think $3500 is to much for both the machine and cabinet.

The cabinet is not necessarily rare, so IMO, although it makes a decent phono stand, it shouldn't really be considered as something that entices value for the set. With that said, my feeling is that, given the machine and horn are in great shape, offer him 3K. He should jump at it, and you get a great phono and can deal the cabinet or keep it.

My offer of $3000 for both was turned down. The original asking price was $4000. His counter offer was $3500. I was going to buy this to sell not to keep.
