I would think some google searching would turn up something, if not your local fabric store. I've certainly seen velvet at my local JoAnn Fabrics, but I've never looked for purple.

There are two problems with using modern velvet. Unless the turntable has a covering ring round the outside, cutting a perfect circle without the fabric fraying is difficult, but it can be overcome by drawing the circle on the fabric first, and smearing a thin film of adhesive round the circle before cutting. The other problem is that modern velvet has a distinct "pile" to it, which means that as the turntable revolves, you get an annoying "light/dark" effect.

Yes, my Silvertone has a raised edge around the turntable Phono48. Most of the purple velvet is gone.....

That's one major problem dealt with then....

If you are shopping for velvet, try to get the dressmaking type, it has a shorter pile than the furnishing velvet, which also may be too thick to go under the rim.

Sometimes remnants will show up on eBay for not much. I got a piece of apple green silk velvet for my Columbia Viva-Tonal that way that was right on in thickness and color.

The trick I use to trim the felt is to take a length of flat aluminum stock (available at home cheapo). Drill a hole at one end that will fit over the center spindle. Then decide where you want to cut the felt at the edge and cut a small slot in the aluminum with a hack-saw. Place the bar over the spindle and place razor knife in the slot and trim the excess off. The bar keeps the razor blade at the exact radius you desire.
