Can somebody fill me in on this one. I have seen a Standard Talking Machine front mount but the horn is new, the box is new, the front mount and reproducer are new, everything appears new except the crank? Why would anyone want to make a reproduction Standard Talking Machine that plays non-standard discs? Anybody know when it was made and by whom? No identifying marks on the reproducer. Dovetailed joints in the corners of the oak square case, new decal. Looks like the crank if left in would be seen unwinding as it played. Thanks in advance for your help! Regards

I have a Standard Talking Machine myself so I think I could help you with this problem. Could you post some photos of the machine? It is actually quite normal for the reproducer to have no identifying marks, but from what you said it sounds like most of the machine has been restored with reproduction parts.

Could it just be that it is overly restored and made to look new? They do sell a platter that fits the Standard spindle so you can play regular 78's. Pictures would definitely help.

Looks like a Standard machine to me. Looks like the horn was repainted but doesn't look like it is a "new" made machine.

I've been waiting to see the photos as your thread had me very curious! All I can say is congratulations!! No report parts that I can see...you simply have a near mint example. That turntable felt is probably the most pristine original felt I have laid eyes on!

You are correct, the horn is a repro. Still a nice looking machine.

Looks very nice. The crank escutcheon is incorrect though. It should only have a brass ring, much like an Edison Standard.
