Hi guys,
What do you all do about frozen feedscew pivots on a machine like an Edison Standard? I've done a round of penetrating oil, but I don't want to put to much force on things in fear of ruining the feedscrew...

Hi Benjamin-- I just dealt with the same issue on a Fireside I picked up-- and have encountered the stuck bearings on many machines in the past. First, do your best to clean any exposed surface of the bearing so you are not trying to force dirt and corrosion through the hole. I use a small soft-wire brush to do that. After all the penetrating oil efforts have failed, I've taken a very small jewelers punch pin and placed it on the shoulder of the bearing alongside the pivot pin on the end opposite from the gear. Of course it will be at a pretty steep angle due to the threaded part of the feedscrew. Using a small rubber mallet, I tap the punch and hope to get some outward movement on the bearing. Once it starts to move outward, I can usually get a grip on it with a pair of pliers and pull it free. Use care not to twist the pliers and mar the surface of the bearing.
