Well, hopefully this is a fluke. As much as I would love to pick one up for the same price, I'd hate to see the devaluation of everyone else's collections.

It costs $250 to ship this machine. I think that's why the bidding was low. Still over $1900.00 total. That's about right in today's market

Perhaps because it was so obviously over restored?
Anyway, to renew your faith in the market, there's always this....and, shipping's free!

It was on CL last week, it was over restored. I passed on it and told them to put in on EBAY.
Sold for less than the CL price.

This one is only about 20 miles from me so if someone wants me to inspect it for them just let me know. Oh, and my inspection fees are $5000 on such a rare machine like this :D

I agree with that. It brought what it did because of what it was, refinished, unknown horn original or repro not fitting the elbow correctly, $250 shipping cost.

When nice originals hit the market they will sell for more.

A cautionary tale here. Most platers over polish the metal parts after stripping and before the copper and nickel finishing. Even then, the practice is to build up with copper and polish down like a rusty bumper. This results in wavy lines, rounded edges and general loss of detail. This is the bête noir of the antique auto hobby. There are some knowledgeable and conscientious platers who will avoid this.

Seems like it went cheap but also, as others have noted, not a pristine example, overly restored. The horn could be repro too.

The seller also didn't do himself any favors with the poor quality pics. It's really hard to assess based on the pics.
