An early phonograph with record changer on CL in Vancouver, WA. Looks interesting, apparently needs servicing.

That's quite impressive-looking, especially that fearsome tone arm! It looks like it would damage any records in the same room, never mind actually playing them! All seriousness aside, what kind of tracking force are we talking about with this beast?

From what I've read, this elaborate tone arm actually tracks with less downward force than the simple straight-arm with the same horseshoe pick-up.
That's a pretty nice-looking "radio-gram"...

I used to own a similar machine. The tracking force is much lighter than say a Victrola because at the back end of the tonearm is a heavy weight. If you take the pickup off, the tonearm flips up like a teeter totter!

Here's a video of mine. It's quite an enjoyable machine to watch and listen to!

Fascinating to watch the changer, and a really well done video.

Thanks! That craigslist offering seems to be in good condition and the price is very reasonable. I hope someone's encouraged to consider it!

Alas it is about as far away from me as it is possible to get in the lower 48.

Watching these machines is mesmerising!
The only UK equvalent seems to be the HMV as seen on Youtube and owned by Sanfranphono.
Working out the present-day price of items sold in the 1930s dosen't really work, as in those days in GB and I'm sure in the USA, after the bills were paid if you had a few pennies left over you were grateful.
Alistair.

A very impressive machine indeed! Thanks for the demonstration. And also for the description of the counter-balanced tone arm. I learn something new every day on this board!
