Odd Regina Attachment Question....

A friend recently bought a 15 ½" Regina mechanism that has a long screw in type crank and an odd attachment on the spring barrel. The attachment looks like a chain sprocket with a circular electrical switch attached... the switch turns on current when the disc plays and turns it off when it stops. Any ideas what this is or what type of machine it originally came from?

It may have been used in a gum dispenser or gaming machine as Regina used disc movements in some of these. Here's a link

Thanks for the info PhonoGal... so, is that the consensus, that it was made for some type of gaming machine?
