It is amazing to see the number of parted-out machines on E-bay these days--and most of them seem to be Edisons (especially S-19s, C-19s, and H-19s). Given this level of carnage, it's hard to believe that there's an adequate market...but apparently there is.

Good for you for not revealing the location of this wounded machine to the cannibals. Market forces are not the world's highest value.

Just for the record: using the Long Playing gearing on any Edison Diamond Disc Phonograph equipped with the Type B mechanism, is completely appropriate from a historical perspective. The conversion kits were sold by the company in 1926 for such to accommodate playing their LPs on "regular" models.


Using the conversion does not create a so-called "Long-Franken-Edistein". In fact I've even seen several such conversions on a C 250, H 19, and even a TMF member's S 19, if memory serves correctly.

I actually bought this unit, and I'm undecided exactly what my course of action will be at the moment.

The cabinet is complete, except for the impossible to replace door panel "grille" materials and pressed wood fiber decorative accoutrements.

If I chose to use the Long/Short gearing in my very late C 19, well; that's my choice.

If/when I do this conversion, I will store the 1-C with the mechanism from the C 19 installed into it as a functional, and completely reversible unit. That way, if ever I have the incredibly lucky experience of finding the critical pieces necessary for an actual historically correct restoration, I will be able to; instead of the obvious cob-job that others might have done to this Phonograph.

Therefore, I guess I take exception to the gross prejudice that I would "cannibalize" an otherwise possibly trashed low-value poor-condition LP Console that no one seemed to want.

Hi Fran----It could be worth checking this company for the wood composition ornaments. They have been in business over 100 years, and still have a vault of the molds used to cast many of the "compo" decorations used years ago by the phonograph and furniture manufacturers. They have a web site, but their extensive paper-backed catalog illustrates most---if not all---of their inventory, as I understand it all can be made to order.
