I have only these three pictures and have not been able to inspect the machine in person. Does anyone know this model? I´ve never seen it before, the top works certainly look like the real thing. Could it be a Frankenphone do you think? Any ideas?

It is a legitimate HMV, if I am not mistaken the one that was made to replace the Lumière 510. HMV utilized the same body and replaced the top carrying the pleated diaphragm with a traditional tonearm , adding a horn below. The yellow tape look suspicious, though, as there is no obvious use for it unless the lateral panels are falling apart. Removing the tape may also damage the veneer under it.

Yes, of course, now I see it, you´re right. That explains it. I´ll see if I can get to inspect the machine and see if it´s worth investing in.

The condition is not the greatest but it could be worse---like the last one I bought...............
The 511 models were actually fine machines in converted Lumière cabinets as Carlos says. The horns are not re-entrant but sound reproduction is pretty good. Fittings were gold-plated.

The motor is the high quality, quadruple spring, HMV Type 34.

Why do people insist on thinking the horn slats are for record storage?

Aren't they? Oh jeez, I'd better find another place---but where?

I have one, and I am quite fond of it. It's attractive, unusual (at least in the USA), and it sounds very good.

I watched that video recently. Very good to see the motor repaired, however, I'm not sure if they did a reproducer rebuild. Toward the end, they kind of faded out of the digital soundtrack that was background music, and matched it with the last few seconds of the actual record playing on the machine, and it sounded really squawky and shrill.
