Edison Standard feed screw covers

Every time I think I know everything about Edison machines I find that I certainly do not. I just bought a feed screw cover. My question to this august assemblage is: were the feed screw covers ever supplied as factory equipment...I presume they were... at some point? And were they sold as an accessory if they didn't come with the machine. I have had three Standards over the years..one from the original owner and one from the house in which it had lived since 1907...and none of them had the cover. Thoughts?
Jim.

I believe they were sold as standard equipment on the Standard. I guess I've been lucky as most of the Standards that have passed through my hands had the feed screw cover. On the few occasions that the cover was missing, Ron Sitko sells a perfect replacement. Jerry Blais

The Gear covers and Feed Screw Covers always came with the 2 minute Standard machines and later 4 Minute Combination machines when New. The Gear Covers were even included in the 4 minute Combination "upgrade" kits for 2 minute machines. For some reason, Sometimes either or both covers are missing on a lot of machines found today. Most people probably took them off to oil/lubricate the machines, and never put them back, and some other people today unfortunately remove them to sell them separately as a separate profit from the machine itself. I've seen it done tons of times though I do not agree with the practice.

I figured you folks would know. In all my years of collecting...my
many years...I've only seen two Standards " in the wild " with the feed screw cover intact.
