Could someone provide information on this type M motor from the the "Motor Player Corp"?
I don't know on which gramophone it was used,I don't know what TLC it needs and if it's a reliable motor.
The sticker is hardly readable on the pic but says induction phonograph motor AC only, 110/120v, 35 amp, 50/60 cycles made in Chicago by the Motor Player Corp.
I have a coin slot gramophone for which I didn't find any documentation; it needs a strong motor and I plan to use this MP motor in a non intrusive manner.
All advices will be welcome.
Thanks for your help,
Jeff

That is .35 amp. Point-thirty-five. or about 1/3rd amp of current draw. Notice the printed dot in the plate prior to the blank space where the running amperage is stamped. If that were designed to draw 35 amps it would be bigger than a room window air conditioner.
It looks like a common a/c motor. These can give accurate speed under normal load, the speed being governed by the a/c cycles of the household current (in this case 60 cycles). Electric wall clocks are similar in that their little teeny motors are regulated by the accuracy of the incoming 60 cycle house current. (We now call this 60hz (for Hertz)). If this is a common single-phase motor, it won't matter which wire is which of the 2 wires you see. As A/C is alternating current, there is no plus or minus.

I have been researching a very similar motor. The motor that i have was salvaged by my father and used to make a dust collector system for a small bench grinder. It has been difficult to find out anything on the motor I have, or on the Motor Player Corporation. The motor is marked Induction Phonograph Motor, Motor Player Corporation "MP", and is 120V, 60 Cyc, 0.25 Amp. See the pictures and ads attached.
From my research, I have established that this motor is a Bodine Electric Company motor.... the Bodine company has confirmed that. They also indicated that the s/n was to early to have any readily available documentation, and they couldn't say what the O.E.M. used the motor for. I also attached a picture of a Bodine Motor that is roughly the same.

Try it out. Oil it & run it. If it runs and does not smoke or overheat then it's probably going to do just fine.
