Two Newbie Questions

Edison Home E (that I finally got the shaft out of):
What is the function of this little guy? Spring-loaded idler that rides on the rim of the pulley. When it's in the notch in the pulley, it locks the action. When it's not in the notch, it goes click click click as the pulley goes around. Does it behave differently when the mechanism is right side up?

Question #2:
Would it be possible to see a picture of this missing item? I suspect it's a bracket for a crane to support the horn, but I have no idea what it looks like.

1. The spring loaded idler is a belt tightener & is supposed to ride on the outside of the belt.- the belt pulley is not supposed to have a notch in it (the pot metal belt pulley chips and breaks easily)

The belt tensioner or idler wheel is what you are referring to. This doesn't contact the pulley at all when a belt is installed. The second answer is the cygnet crane bracket that is missing. I'm sure someone will chime in and show you a photo of one. Hope this helps.

Make sure the little wheel is turning freely. A drop of oil usually works.
You need a back bracket, cygnet horn crane and a cygnet horn, all of which Sitko has if you wanna buy repros.

That horn is pointing skywards? Sure you have the right crane? BTW, nice machine.

Okay, now you've got me worried. The little curved "notch" in the pulley rim is a perfect fit for the idler/tensioner. It's too regular to be an accidental chip. Did somebody carve it out deliberately? Will it affect the running of the machine? (Don't see how.)

Its a chip, happened to mine. It shouldn't affect the belt. Just be careful with the pulley- the set screw that holds it to the shaft strips out easily. Replacement castings are available though
