VV-80 Inland Empire -- Craigslist:

If so, it's the first time I've
ever seen the relatively common VV-80 in a walnut finish, and it might be worth grabbing at that price. (Not for me, alas.)

that's definitely walnut... I used to have the same machine, an early VV-80 in that walnut finish... that's a decent one too, despite the gnawing on one of the front edges/wings and the missing shelves (although this one may have had those vertical slats instead of shelves).

Hi Brian:
Many thanks. I thought it might be walnut, but wasn't sure.
Going back some 25 years, I owned a conventional mahogany VV-80 for awhile. I remember that mine was a later model with built-in shelves, and a larger horn mouth. It was sold to a friend when I moved from Bethesda, MD to California.
I think the one on Craigslist would make a great restoration project.

Is this perhaps what they call American Walnut.. It had a large pronounced grain. I once had a Sonora in American Walnut and it resembled this type pattern of grain and colors.

Definitely American Walnut. I have a VV-XIV in that finish and it looks pretty similar.

here are a few machines I've had in the same american walnut finish... the 80 I mentioned, a XIV (next to a mahogany machine, which should give some sense of comparison) and a XVI...
