British Empire Exhibition, 1924

Here's an ad from May 1924 issued to coincide with the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley. The interesting part of this ad is the notice that the Amusement Park had been wired for sound with "very loud amplifiers which have been especially designed and erected for this purpose and are exclusive to His Master's Voice records." Of course the records were recorded acoustically but it would be interesting to know what sort of pick-up they used. Both HMV and Columbia were secretly experimenting with electrical recording at this time. We know more about W.S. Purser's work at Columbia, but HMV was certainly at it too.
