Wonder why the corners are cut off? All trolley/streetcar/trolley bus/motor bus cards I've ever seen (on the vehicles) took rectangular cards.

I know of a collector who has one of those cards, and surprisingly his was cropped at the corners as well.

The one pictured must have had tattered corners, so the owner cropped them on a diagonal.
The card was originally rectangular.
I would like to find an example in good to excellent condition.
