No sense in posting this in my local newspaper.

Highly skilled phonograph repair person seeks work. Good with springs, masterful with glue, ninja-like with repairing wood and veneer. Good ear for meshing gears, and knows how old wiring works and how coins drop through slots. Complicated machines a specialty. I've done it all. Likes difficult jobs with commensurate monetary compensation. Not afraid of grease. Likes to listen to 78's while working.

You're doing it all wrong. You need to stand at a busy street intersection with a tattered cardboard sign that says, "Will repair phonographs for food". Borrow a grubby kid or cute puppy to enhance the effect. Don't smoke while begging or people will suspect its a scam.
