Anyone have any info on cylinders recorded by the Salvation Army ? All I can find on the Salvation Army Museum website is that there only 13 issued and they are now "rare". Is this so, and does anyone have a list of titles and numbers, who made them etc ?

As far as I can see in the CLPGS Reference Series No.6 there were 13 cylinders credited to the Salvation Army. One was a US Columbia by the Salvation Army Singers, of 1900. The rest came from the UK; 2 were Sterling, issued August 1908, the remaining 10 came from Lambert's short-lived Rex label and were released late in the catalogue, perhaps December 1905/January 1906. I assume they were recorded in Lambert's London studio.

As you say, they are quite rare - I have one, pictures below. It is a typical Rex, well made and has lasted well. The lettering has red infill, unlike my other Rex cylinders which are white. The only other Rex Salvation Army cylinder had red infill as well. Hope this helps

Almost certainly. It looks like a classic Rex cylinder. It is also very interesting (to a geek like me, at least!) to see that the lettering is white as the only other one I have seen was red. Sadly that one was broken, but the collector kept it owing to its rarity. Seven of the ten Rex Salvation Army records are marches.

It certainly would! However Rex cylinders were only manufactured for about six months and are accordingly rare, and this means they can be expensive. As mentioned before, I have only ever clapped eyes on two Salvation Army Rex cylinders. The Sterling and Columbia records might be easier to find.

This is a moulded Edison Bell record by the London Concert Orchestra, released and presumably recorded in 1903. The box is interesting - if it is from the British Star company it is most unusual and I have never seen the like. Is there an address of the company on the box?

I have a few other Edison Bell cylinders which looked similar to this Salvation Army selection and I assumed LCO was London Concert Orchestra.
