I know someone has a half dozen 30's sitting around?

I have a few 30's but they are not "mint", and I cannot imagine that you would want a "restored" example of a 30, regardless of how well done. I am trying to track down a very low serial number X that I sold a couple of years ago. It had the improved Gem motor, but was in such perfect original condition that it actually worked beautifully.

I may still have a spare VI at home. It is a NICE one, but probably outside of your want list.

Right now I have a really, really nice original (original down to the grille cloth!) Amberola 50 for sale on eBay, but again, that is probably not quite what you are looking for just now.

I really just want a decent machine to go through cylinders. Easy to move around. Maybe I will have to settle for something not mint?

Well, the 50 that will sell tomorrow evening is not too much bigger. The larger horn soared by the the 50 and the 75 is just so much nicer sounding to my ear. I can hardly bear to listen to a 30 for a long period. If you are just looking for a nice little machine to play through records you could not beat the 50 if it does not go too high. If not I will send you pictures of my 30's when Imget home next week - that is if you haven't found a good machine by then. I think it quite likely that you will.

For me the Amberola 30 is great for an apartment. I have not heard a Amberola 50 or 75, I imagine they sound better.

The big difference is that the 50 and 75 share a little larger horn than the 30 so hence a little more volume.

It is not the volume so much as the quality. Suprising, really since the compass of the 50/75 horn is still quite small, but it is just enough bigger than the 30 to make a consifpderable difference in reproduction, particularly of bass notes.

I would agree that the difference between a 30 and 50/75 is quite noticeable, not just sound quality but that extra spring makes it run smoother too. If you are looking for a good quality, relatively small machine to play 4 minute records it would certainly outperform the 30 and DX. The V would sound comparable but again only single spring motor in the V.
