Those are, of course, the same selections used for the wax Special Amberols: probably from the same masters.

The 'Special' series, with letters rather than numbers, were supplied with combination kits to upgrade existing 2 minute machines to 2&4 minute. It was an extra sales inducement to get a set of records to use immediately with the updated phonograph. These records were not sold individually.

Here are some pics of them.. This is the original 4 minute Wax Series... Later on, There was a Blue Amberol Series which came in similar but Orange containers.

Just to clarify, the Specials A through K in both the wax and Blue Amberol series came in blue boxes.

However, there was a separate series of 24 wax Amberols (D-1 through D-24) that came in orange boxes. These were never sold. Instead, someone who referred a friend to a dealer was given their choice of 6 of the orange box records if the referral resulted in a sale. The orange box "D" series specials are all rare and completing the set is extremely difficult.

Yes, That's correct.

Thanks for the correct elaboration!

Does someone have a listing of the D1 thru D24 4M wax cylinders??!?? I had in my mind that they were Blue Amberols and not wax ones. Good catch. Did they make a Blue Amberol version of the "D" Series Specials?..like the other A thru J Specials?? I can't remember.. I'd have to look it up..

I don't have the "D" Series Specials list handy.. It would be a great addition to this thread!

:o)

Thanks,
