Garrard induction motor AC 6A

I'm trying to repair a Garrard AC 6A. It makes a humming noise but there is no movement. I opened it up and found the governor had fallen off due to a loose screw on the retaining plug end. Secured that thinking it's an easy fix. No such luck. The governor tries to turn but won't and I've still got the humming as if the motor is trying to turn but cannot.
Any help appreciated.

Are there brushes in the motor?
Does it turn by hand without power ?

It's an Induction motor so no brushes. DC motors with brushes are notorious for causing RFI (radio frequency interference).
I almost gave up on this motor, I kept thinking perhaps there was a winding problem but there seemed to be plenty of torque when switched on, just no motion. After hours of tweaking I finally got the thing working. The governor end pin adjustment had to be just right. I'd have it and then when tightening the fixing screw the thing would freeze up again. Tiny, tiny adjustments and finally success.

I wasn't sure if there would be brushes..
I was going to say the only other problem except windings must be governor . How odd .Good news though .
I had a weird problem with the electric collaro motor in my Expert .
It was fine , but one day when i tried adjusting speed it would take ages to change and wouldn't go back to its original setting .Later It then started slowing down on records and playing slowly. I spent hours messing with it .
In the end the only way I could get it to work was to actually bend the metal lever that adjusted the governor to allow it to travel further as there was no adjustment i could make ,then after that it worked perfectly! Very strange .

Well done Chunny. Those adjustments of the eccentric governor bearings can take a very long time and be very perplexing to adjust.
I have an electric Collaro in my Expert too, and must get round to giving it some attention - on switching on, it stalls and re-starts repeatedly for anything from 10 to 30 seconds. So far I've just lived with it, as it doesn't seem threatening and hasn't worsened. Quirks and foibles!
