In looking at my Edison B-19 in better lighting, I have noticed there are what appears to be mildew looking spots here and there in the lid. I am thinking the machine may have been susceptible to some mold that attacked the varnish. What can be used to fix this?

I've had luck with mixing white vinegar and Old English on a rag and wiping down the machine. Not only does this kill any growth but seems to emulsify the finish to rid of minor imperfections (my focus is the late victrolas and Electrolas).

I'm NOT contradicting the above suggestion, just adding another approach, just adding an alternate approach.

I've used "Goop" (or other brands) non-pumice mechanic's hand cleaner with good results. Just apply it with a soft rag or paper towel, wait a few minutes and then wipe it off. Reapply as necessary.

In my experience, it will soften the finish slightly when left applied for a long period of time, or used multiple times.

Also, it seems to me that the B 19 finish is not a very durable one, so test in an inconspicuous place first.

My Chalet has the "Rouge" finish.

I've also used this technique with all of my cabinets and bed plates/motor plates.

Howard's Restore-A-Finish will also work. Make sure you use the right color,
