I'm pleased to learn that the journal is arriving. A member in Chicago received his last week! As usual, the Pony Express hasn't yet made it to Western New York State, but I'd rather be among the last to get it than the first...

Thanks to a number of kind members on this Forum, there's an article on AH Disc Graphophones in this issue which (for the first time I believe) sorts out the four major variations of this model. Thanks to all who helped. Here are a couple of photos that didn't make the cut...

The AH in these photos is the same one we showed in The Talking Machine Compendium which came with original carrying cases for the machine and horn. I've admired that AH for 20 years, and last fall the owner offered it to me for what I thought was a reasonable price. I'm happy to finally own it.

The record cabinet was a gift from a very generous collector who strongly felt he owed me a favor (he didn't). I'm happy that he insisted over my objections. I've never seen a cabinet quite like this. It will accommodate only 10" discs. The styling immediately suggested the later AH to me, but the finish is a little too light for a good match (The original finish is present on all interior surfaces, so when I restored it I matched that.) There's a drawer at the top inside the record compartment. For such a petite cabinet, this thing is heavy. And the feet are the same type as used on Edison and Rosenfield coin-operated machines. Clearly an off-the-shelf set of feet, but they're unusual to find on a record cabinet.

Nice article on the saxophone horn HMV Victrola clones. And a really nice piece on the Edison C250/C19 uprights. Again a good blend of articles on the early and late period of acoustic technology. To me there is something about a pure acoustic phonograph. I'm even suspicious of the electrically driven ones!

Thank you for the kind words. It's almost sad for me to see the series come to an end with the next issue. There's so much more I'd like to say.
