I decided to rebuild the motor on my VV-50. It seemed to be working correctly, just a very weak spring since it wouldn't play through the whole record. I noticed this wire by the ratchet pawl and have not been able to figure out if it's needed or how it works. (notice it runs down and around the right side of base.)I have worked on a few 4 spring but never a simple one spring yet this one has me confused. I also show the end of the ratchet pawl,is this correct as I've never seen one like this. It seems someone may have worked on it in the past since there was a missing retaining ring, so now I'm wondering if other parts are broken or missing. Thanks Gary

That ratchet pawl is not correct. It's something someone has made. That partial screw hole on the backside looks like to was just part of the chunk of steel chosen for the job. I suppose the spring was somehow meant to engage the pawl with the ratchet wheel. There should be no such spring when the correct ratchet is used as no Victrola should go "clickity clack" while it's being wound. George Vollema, or eBay, should have what you need.

I kind of figured that but wanted to be sure. I will be on the hunt for the correct ratchet pawl and other missing pieces. Gary
