Just brought home an Edison Model E Dictating Machine. Included is a bag with several parts. Hope there's enough parts to get it running.

I don't know anything about the electric motor. It has a switch for AC or DC current, it is currently set at AC. Last time I tried to work on an electric motor (a Victor VE-XVI), I darned near blew it up until I found out it ran on 32v instead of 120v. What will happen if I plug this motor in to 120v??

Check all wiring make sure it is good, and repair any frays with some heat shrink tubing, do not destroy and take out the wiring harness. Make sure the motor is moving freely, and check the continuity on the motor. Check the resistor and check that it is somewhat adjusted to the left (do not bypass or take the resistor out, many times this resistor was used when voltage might have been 220 volts at the place it was used, and will be towards the middle, the motor wont move until it is more towards the left, but not fully left. Also check the brushes on the motor that they are not worn out.

Thanks! The Ekonowatt motor is the only thing that moves on this machine. Seems to be pretty smooth. I'll give it a shot. Wish me luck!

I oiled the motor and governor pads, checked the wiring, and plugged it in. It spins! YeeHaa!
