I wanted to share a few photos of my latest acquisition, an Edison C-200, serial number SM-24702. I picked this up yesterday on a visit to a fellow forum member's home. I also had the opportunity to meet Fran, another forum member, which was a great pleasure. It was an absolutely wonderful afternoon. Thanks George and Fran!

This C-200 presents quite well, considering it spent many years in a barn before George acquired it. The finish is alligatored throughout, but the mahogany grain still presents very well. It's a very nice shade of red mahogany, which I find very nice. It even retains the original grille cloth, though it has faded and has a few tears. I don't intend to replace it, as I think it still presents fairly well.

I think my favorite features of this model are the carved medallions and other carved details. I have come to really like the design of this model, and am very pleased to own one.

I'm not sure why the photographs are displaying sideways- they do appear correct when clicked on.

Nice find. I wouldn't do anything to the finish, aside from waxing. It looks very nice.

Nate, I just knew that someday, someone would spot that C-200 in my basement and appreciate it. (There's much more down there - - when are you coming back?!)

The C-200 is a distinctive Edison, and has pleasing proportions. As I mentioned yesterday, I like the decorative leg braces. I think the machine looks even better in real life... It's surprisingly tall.

I hadn't noticed until Fran pointed out the "shiny" gold plate on the reproducer and horn neck. Fran's remark that he noticed later Edisons exhibiting a duller gold finish has sparked my interest. I need to do some snooping around the house...

Finally, your C-200 sure sounded good in the shop. How does it compare with your C-19?

I'm glad that - - like the early Victrola XI - - the C-200 has found a home where it is fully appreciated, played, and admired. I hope you enjoy it for many, many years.

Thank you phonoboy! I don't plan on touching the finish. I gave it a few coats of lemon oil and it looks great.

Fran was quite right about the gold plating. The gold on my C-19 is a much duller finish. I don't know id it comes through in the photo, but I was using the C-19 reproducer on the C-200.

I notice very little difference between the sound. In fact, to my ears the C-200 seemed to have slightly better low end than the C-19 does.

I'm glad you mentioned this, because I was thinking that the C-200's reproducer was shinier than it appeared in the photos!

I too was impressed with the "low end" of that C-200's reproducer. You know...the shiny one...

I agree, I think you have a pretty sweet C-200 there, I never really appreciated the cabinetry details until I was able to get a closer look at it! Very "Sheraton-Inlay-esc"! If there is such a word...

We'll have to meet over here at some point...I can show you all the "junk" my wife and I have gathered over the decades...

Both reproducers sound great, especially considering the shiny one has never been rebuilt. I have to admit, I like the shiny gold finish better.

Fran, I would love a chance to visit! I would really like to see how that Edison 1-C has turned out. Having seen it in person, I know how rough it was. I bet it looks a good deal better now.

Nate, in another week I should finally have the doors back together with my brand new grille cloth.

I'll be certain to post images into the thread I started months ago, and I'd love to get your reaction, especially since you saw it when it was languishing...
