When I attended the Mechanical Music Extravaganza in NJ, back in April. A dealer had a prototype for a new Diamond Disc. Has anyone heard if they are producing them, and are they for sale yet? Thought it might be cool to have one.

I'd like someone to produce a cylinder of the Charleston dubbed from the Edison DD. Might be historically incorrect...but I bet they would sell like hotcakes!!

Just checking in on TMF from my vacation in sunny Croatia so will be short. Nice ocean, lots of sand, nice, well you know... but not a phono to be seen.

I have the Vulcan version of "Charleston" by Golden Gate Orch dubbed from a Velvetone pressing. It sounds pretty good but not quite right. Seems like the melody is strong but the the accompanying instrumentation is a bit weak.

The Edison version on DD is great though, probably my favorite rendition although I'm biased.

Okay, well it would appear my question has yet to be answered?

Bruce, I am sorry to disagree but the cylinder is dubbed from Edison Diamond Disc 51542-R. You can tell easily by the time which is exactly 4 minutes. So, after Mr. Edison refused to have it released on cylinder it would only take some 83 years until this major decision override was made.

Regarding the new diamond discs, I saw them this October too, along with a copy of a 7" Berliner. I could not tell the difference to the original as long as they were laying on the table. They're still prototypes and to my knowledge no real progress was made since the first appearance at the April show.

I overheard the dealer mention to someone that there was a lack of capital to go further at the present with the project. I don't know what future plans there are at this point. The dealer is a regular at the Wayne show, so maybe there'll be more news in the spring.
