I wonder why Edison didn't put Sophie Tucker singing"Some Of These Days"in the Blue Amberol 5000 series when he reissued artists like Harry Lauder and Victor Herbert's Orchestra? edisonplayer

I always wondered the same, it seemed like Sophie kind of lost popularity with Edison during the later years. However, she did make later appearances even on a show called "Whats my Line" back in 1957.

I don't want to hijack your thread, but I found an episode with her in 1963. Were any other Edison recording artists still "active" in any way in the 1960s, or even possibly later?

Good question, I do not know that he was active? but Walter Van Brunt lived until 1971, and Don Vorhees was living until the late 1980's. Anna Case lived until 1984. Maybe that is why at 42, I really started young with this in the late 80's, as many of these stars were either still around or their music was not as distant in the past.

I will say by the 1990's most if not all Edison stars had passed away.

Please correct me, if anyone knows more, but one explanation could be, that the galvanic master might have been destroyed during the fire of 1914 and only left an incomplete stock behind.

At least "Phoebe Jane" was up for a BA re-issue but never made into the catalog. So, that one did exist after 1914.

The fire sounds like a logical explanation!

At least some of us were fortunate enough to get your reissue of "Phoebe Jane" I was just playing it the other day on my Triumph.

That is a logical explanation. I missed out on the "Phoebe Jane" cylinder last year, that would have been a nice one to play on my Amberola 30.

I'm glad I bought Norman Bruederhofer's reissue of Sophie singing her theme song,"Some Of These Days".I play it just about every day.As you know,it's a LOT safer to play than the original wax Amberol!edisonplayer
