Does anyone have a photo of a machine like this with original decals in place. I need to know size (inches), location and looks of the decal that would go with this machine. I am in touch with Gregg Cline and he does not know correct size.

You could probably gauge the size by looking at the under the lid photos on this page -- http://www.collectorsworldwest.com/lookup.php?id=40 This looks to be the same model you have.

The decal, itself, appears to be in the exact center of the inside lid area.

I always find interesting the imperfect placement of original decals. They are often off center or tilted slightly. I've even seen a Vernis Martin Victrola XVII with an upside down decal. The placement of your decal will be done with much more effort than someone that did hundreds a day. Jerry Blais

This help? Not sure if it is the same machine. Just looked at this machine today at a auction house.

Here is one for you Jerry. My wife spotted this one at the auction last weekend at Union. It is pretty clean but the decal is upside down. You have to wonder how these passed inspection at the factory. Maybe it was made on a Monday?

Some of that stuff is pretty funny, but it was probably sold at a discount over that decal. Those old varnish transfer decals were on paper and when the varnish dried down to "tack" they laid the decal on the cabinet and then rolled over it with a brayer to make sure it stuck down well. After a week or so when the varnish had finished up drying they would soak the paper off with a wet sponge. I would guess they had a stack of decals to put on lids and one of them was upside down in the stack. It would have been a lot of work to sand that off and start over, so I suppose they just let it go.

I saw an Amberola 1-A or B at Union a few years ago that had a messed up lid decal too. That one also had a huge run in the varnish under the lid as well, that guy really had a bad week! When you refinish a lot of these old cabinets, it's kind of surprising the stuff they let pass. But all of that stuff was brushed on before 1924 and it was a lot of work. And the varnish they sprayed on before lacquer, still had to be brushed out. They sure did an amazing amount of work in those days and for the most part, were incredibly good at it.

The machine Victor Jr. shows in the link looks a lot like mine so think I will go with that larger decal in the center of lid. Ha ha if I can get it in the center that is. I will also try not to put it on upside down. I just took a decal off of a horn which was upside down. I will try to be more careful in my application of the decal. Thanks for all the suggestions, photos and comments too.
