Asphalt Paint

Black Magic Asphalt Paint - 1 gal. Just curious if this
would work well when refinishing bed plates on talking machines??

I've not had a chance to order some 'real' asphaltum paint, but I would guess that the waterproofing products might have a different viscosity. Considering the price of a quart of asphaltum paint vs. a gallon of the waterproofing stuff it might be worth a gamble.

You might want to try asphaltum varnish. I think that's closer to what you are referring to. Printers use it and it is black once you get enough coats on. And it will dry. I used some to refinish a golden oak Victrola and it worked quite well for what I wanted it for. I haven't tried it though as a finish to see how dark it dries or how fast it would take to dry on metal. I left it set on the Victrola cabinet for a week or two before I put shellac over it. This is where I bought it.
