Showing a crap-o-phone as an early Gramophone. What a hoot. Not to mention the BS narrative. This writer is totally clueless.

I have a value guide for musical items that I purchased several years ago.The write up on the phonograph had several errors such as playing Berliner records on an Edison phonograph COCKEYED and the first double sided discs of Columbia being made of pressed wax.And the article mentioned the Victor Record Company. What ill informed DRIVEL! edisonplayer

It's REALLY HARD to set yourself up as an expert, without doing just a little preliminary research... :?

The NAME of his website might yield a clue: http://www.perfessorbill.com

That being said, he does seem to be an accomplished musician, if not an accurate historian...

OK. guys, the article is not awful for someone who hasn't studied phonographs/recording history in depth. Lots of those errors are easy to read in books, or pick-up on the web, it's all too simple to become misinformed. Bill Edwards is a pretty accomplished ragtime pianist, and is quite highly regarded in that community. He specializes in sheet music, and his site seems to be quite accurate in most other places.

I agree with you. But still, you must allow us hidebound anal-retentive purists our occasional chortle at the folly of the uninformed.

I wonder if he can be communicated with, and helped to correct his inaccuracies? It is astonishing that a crap-o-phone would show up in his work, but maybe he was gun-shy to use someone else's better, appropriate (copyrighted) image?
