The pictures below were taken Yesterday in Berlin, Germany (not 100 years ago). Sorry that I was not able to take better pictures of the window display, the reflection of the sun was too strong. I would have loved to spend hours in that store, but unfortunately it is currently closed for vacation. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in Berlin.

Is there anything like this in the USA ??? That would be my candy store or ice cream store.. It seems like on the west cost there is not much left. Tom B

There is a shop in Houston called "Vintage Sounds". They are friends of mine and have been in business over 30 years. Prices are very retail, but they always have a good stock of machines and records.

For visitors to Berlin, there is also (at least) one antique bookstore that sells 78s. I checked it out after the other store was closed and left with 30 nice jazz and dance music records. I could have bought more, but had to keep the limitations of my luggage in mind.

Coincidentally, I also was in Berlin over the past weekend! Unfortunately I completely forgot to plan a visit to this shop, but in the end it was closed for holydays so I didn't miss much!

I believe this is the shop once owned by Mr. Herbert Noritz, which was called "Musik Antik". I still have Mr. Noritz' link among my favourites, and the old link redirects here. Possibly the shop changed owner and name at some point.

I am especially attached to that shop as it was one of the first ever in Europe to have an e-commerce website with a list of for-sale gramophone related objects (well, not exactly "e-commerce" as it is intended today: you had to write an e-mail, wait for the reply, etc. the "old" way... Mr. Noritz didn't speak english by the way so the boy who was taking care of his website once a week translated my messages to him). I remember buying a nice lot of original, sealed gramophone needles tins. They were the first that I could ever purchase, adn receiving them was very exciting: the very few others that I owned at that time, I had "inherited" by relatives. Back then you could still be sure that you were buying a genuine item, and not a stupid tin refilled with needles of an unappropriate type as today. I also remember buying from him a stock of cardboard 78rpm sleeves, of a very good quality that I've never found again later.
