This Silvertone Portola recently made its way into my collection. There's no data plate or any info other that "Silvertone Portola" written on the storage compartment. There is no text or other info on the reproducer.
Does anyone have an idea as to who made it?
And when it may have been made?
And how can you tell?
Thank you.

Silvertone was a brand name introduced by Sears in 1915, but I don't know who actually manufactured the machines. I would guess that your Portola dates from the mid-1920's but we don't see too many Silvertones here in the UK, so over to our American experts.

Silvertone was the house brand of Sears. By the looks of it I would say mid 1920s. Looks to be in nice condition.

did you check under the platter for am ID plate?? Also different brands had some chalk IDs inside the box when they were building them or a little paper tag. A lot are unidentifiable. I have been working on RCAs portables for a year and am having problems. RCA took over from victor in 1929 and after there model 2-65 it gets difficult.. Tom B
